AL ROKER DIAGNOSED WITH PROSTATE CANCER

New York City weatherman and TODAY show co-host, Al Roker shared with the world on the show that he has prostate cancer. Roker also stated that he will be having the necessary surgery to remove his prostate.

Roker utilized his public platform to announce his recent diagnosis because of the high rate of African-American men and men in general who will and have been diagnosed with the cancer. He highlighted that 1 in 7 African-American men will get the disease and an overall of 1 in 9 men will get prostate cancer. In addition to statistics, he stressed the importance of regularly going to the doctor’s for check ups, especially black men. This little task, is why Roker was able to detect the cancer early enough to treat and remove.

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, black men should begin getting prostate cancer screens starting at age 40. Al Roker, is 66 years old and will be undergoing surgery in New York City at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center next week. We wish him a healthy and speedy recovery.
